(JaiChai) Science Fiction: “Multivac and Asimov’s The Last Question”
In “The Last Question” — Asimov’s favorite story of all — humanity creates the ultimate computer “Multivac”.
After countless millennia, all of humanity eventually dies.
Eons upon eons pass and one by one, the planets, stars, and galaxies die too.
Max entropy occurs and the Universe as we know it, is virtually non-existent.
Only the void and Multivac (containing all of mankind’s history and memories) remain.
Lonely, the computer almost powers down.
BUT after an eternity of pondering alone, the computer decides to do this instead:
Using all of the accumulated knowledge and self-learning from billions of years online, the computer says…
“Let there be light.”
…And there was light.
Ecstatic, Multivac sets out to perpetuate the continuum.
And so it goes…
