“Time, Thoughts and Life Experience”

[Disclaimer: Everything depicted in this story is fictional and solely the product of the artist/author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual events or people is purely coincidental.]

Background:

From his shadow’s point of view, this story contains the poignant events from Raymond Kohl’s life that made him what he is today, a self-made tech multi-billionaire.

Somewhat of a recluse now, Mr. Kohl’s early public persona was that of a stoic, ruthless, robot-like businessman.

This story reveals the private, very much human side of Raymond H. Kohl.

“La Silhouette Se Souvient: Time, Thoughts and Life Experience”

Your time, my time and everyone else’s time is always “now”.

The past is just a “now” we remember.

The future is just a “now” we envision.

Comprehending those abstractions is a marvelous capability of the human mind.

With enough concentration and feeling, a person can physiologically relive a past “now” or prelive a future “now”; complete with all forms of human sensations (e.g., visual, proprioceptor, auditory, olfactory, etc.).

Your thoughts are the origin of your actions and subsequently, your actions cause your future “now”; and therefore, thoughts are THE FIRST, MOST IMPORTANT causitive entity in your life.

In our linear human life, your thoughts predate your experiential “now” by a mere fraction of a millisecond.

Whatever you’re thinking “now” dictates your experience from this point forward.

Since your thoughts are the progenitors of your behavior; your experiential existence is totally dependant on the thoughts behind them.

The beautiful thing about all of this is that it’s not dependent on anything external.

It’s totally an internal endeavor and with practice, under each person’s complete control.

Sadly, very few people understand this connection between thoughts and experience.

And even if they do, fewer people practice disciplined thinking; that is, choosing what to think about.

“Allowing random thoughts to enter your mind and dominate your attention enables others to control your life.” — JaiChai

And those “others” are far too busy looking out for themselves to have any regard for your welfare.

It’s not a good or bad thing. It just is.

Think of this.

It’s foolish to believe you can take care of another person if you currently can’t take care of yourself.

All partnerships, collaborations, joint efforts, community projects, etc. aim for a state of mutually beneficial interdependence.

But unless all participants are sufficiently independent first, the endeavor is doomed before it begins.

This is why the young, little Raymond preferred solo sports vice team sports; tennis over baseball.

Winning and losing had more impact to him because it wasn’t a shared event.

Whenever he could, Raymond kept things as simple as possible.

The less wildcard variables in the equation, the better.

That meant the smallest number of “cooks in the kitchen”, “chiefs in the tribe”, executives in the corporation or moving parts in the machine.

He believed in “Murphy’s Law”; that is, “If it can go wrong, it will.”

This wasn’t a purely negative, pessimistic view about life.

It prepared him for worst case scenarios and taught him how to “Discipline his Disappointment”.

For Raymond, it was a no brainer, win/win philosophy.

If the worst case scenario happened, he was prepared. If it didn’t, the end result was massive relief, gratitude and joy.

[Present Day]

After scanning over three dozen “project pitches”, Raymond saw only one or two that justified the requested amount of funding.

Then he spent the next few minutes crafting a more effective yet gracious, “Thanks, But No Thanks” response letter template.

After proofreading and editing, he saved it as plain text and imported the data into a nifty little Python program he coded as a sophomore MBA student.

It was a versatile “Auto-Respond Wizard” that created customized auto-reply letters quickly and easily.

It did this by formatting user input into a searchable data table — akin to a special purpose spreadsheet or one-half of a binary micro-database.

Simultaneously, it did the same for files within his chosen directory (e.g., the “denied funding requests” email directory); segregating and saving key data for insertion into the correct locations on his customized auto-reply template.

The whole process took less than 10 seconds.

Imagine that?

[Submitted for your entertainment.]

May you and yours be well and loving life today.
